History of Fontana
Azariel B.Miller laid the stones of Fontana in 1913. Pre-World War II, Fontana was known for its agriculture of citrus orchards, chicken ranches, and vineyards. After the routing of a part of the city with San Bernardino Freeway, an industrial boom happened to the city. Between 1950s and 1960s, Fontana was famed as home to a renowned drag racing strip, i.e., Mickey Thompson’s Fontana International Drag way. As a corollary, the city was being called Fontana Drag City. Ro-Val’s automobile museum, nestled between Fontana and Cucamonga, was once the famed site for various classic automobiles of the 1920s and ’30s. The center of attraction was including a whopping vehicle owned by noted screen actor Fatty Arbuckle. When the museum closed, all those vintage vehicles were sold to Bill Harrah, who was a famous Nevada casino owner cum automobile collector. He put those vehicles on display in the museum nestled at his casino. Today, with a population of more than 203,000 people, the city has become the second most populous city located in San Bernardino county.
